Our People

We want to be different from the other train operators; we want to be the most loved railway operation in the UK, where our customers, people, partners, and communities come together. We are on a mission to create and bring together a workforce that reflects our society and the communities we serve and become the employer and train operator of choice.

Whether being onboard the train, maintaining our trains in our HQ, or checking that our customers are safe and comfortable while traveling, we are all one team. Achieving our ambition requires some seriously awesome people who are as enthused as we are as part of the team. If this is you, would you like to join us?

Our commitments to inclusion and diversity

A culture of diversity and inclusion brings value to our customers, employees, suppliers, partners, and, most of all, to our company. Creating a diverse and inclusive environment creates and enforces a sense of wellbeing and belonging, enabling our people to thrive and grow. Therefore, we are seeking a committed team that’s buzzing to deliver our inclusion strategy. It has everyone in mind, ensuring people can do what we do best, be themselves, and thrive within our business. As part of our commitment, we are working with external partners who provide us with support, input, and advice throughout our journey.

Meet the Team

Liz Lumber – Head of Operations

I love the feeling of being part of the WSMR family, where everyone’s voices are heard and considered. We genuinely care for each other and have pulled together to get the project from conception to a reality. WSMR feels like the ignition needed to light up the industry by putting a first class service back on the rail map. Having spent 24 years in railway operations within large TOCs, holding positions as Train Driver, Operational Standards Manager and Head of Operations it’s now time to drive the change.

The WSMR organisation is fresh, vibrant and values individuality, celebrating differences providing a new approach to train operations given its open access business model. We are an inclusive railway family, where everyone is empowered to have their voices heard.

This is such an exciting time, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of something new and you can be part of the team. We are looking to attract expressions of interest from experienced train drivers to be part of our talent pool for 2025. We aim to be the best in class, providing outstanding safety and customer service. We are looking for individuals who can look beyond their daily tasks and assist others in the team to deliver a package of excellence. If you believe this is your ethos, then we want to meet you! This is your chance to join our small, but perfectly formed team, headed by professional operators with a passion for excellence.

Meet the Team

Gaynor Stewart - Head of Customer Service Delivery, UK&I, Services

WSMR is such an exciting opportunity for Alstom as a business and for many of the teams who work within it, the chance to design and build an operation from beginning to end starting with a blank piece of paper is not something that comes along every day. The Open Access service enables us to build something unique and bespoke that will reflect the route, fleet and customers who will choose to travel with us. We aspire to showcase some of the local food and drink providers along the route and deliver a more personal onboard service that has the customer at the heart of everything we do. We want to build collaborative partnerships along the route which helps everyone to win together.

If you are someone who likes to be part of the design, build and success of a business and you don’t want to deliver “just the norm every day” then WSMR is going to be for you. We want to deliver those brilliant basics every day but then look for opportunities where we can surprise and delight and make people feel like individuals. Safety will always be our number one priority…..but that doesn’t mean it has to be boring! Having fun at work and celebrating life events and calendar dates will be part of our strategy.

We are looking for Train Managers & caterers who enjoy working as a team to deliver the best they can for the customer whilst supporting each other to be the best that can be. Someone who is motivated, enthusiastic, likes to innovate , and has a passion for what we will deliver and create together is actively encouraged to apply!
