Helical Pile Foundations

Helical piles – also known as helical screw piles – are high-capacity, engineered foundation systems built for the demands of commercial construction and national infrastructure. We’re one of the UK’s leading helical pile specialists, trusted by major contractors and engineers on projects across every sector.

About Helical Pile Foundations

With shaft diameters up to 140mm and the capacity to handle substantial compression, tensile, and shear loads, they’re the go-to specification for structural engineers, civil engineers, and contractors working on large-scale projects.

Every pile is torque-verified on site in conjunction with our site-specific pile design, and our service delivers the comprehensive torque pile logs and certification data that engineers and building control require.

We supply and install helical pile foundation systems across the UK, offering a full turnkey service that covers pile design, manufacturing, installation, torque monitoring, and certification.

How Helical Piles Work

Each helical pile is a steel tubular shaft fitted with precisely welded helical plates. Installation is carried out using a tracked machine or excavator equipped with a rotary torque driver and an integrated torque monitoring system.

Every pile is installed in strict accordance with the engineered design criteria, with continuous torque monitoring throughout to verify that the required installation torque and depth are achieved.

This method allows piles to reach deeper, more stable soil strata, supporting substantial vertical, lateral, and shear loads. Because the torque is monitored and recorded throughout, every pile produces a verified performance record.
On completion, you receive a comprehensive torque pile log recording installation torque, depth, pile identification, and performance data for each pile.

Where Helical Piles Are Specified

Helical piles are the foundation of choice not only for projects where load capacity, certified data, and long-term structural integrity are non-negotiable, but also for environmentally sensitive sites, contaminated land, and locations with tree protection orders (TPOs) where traditional excavation and concrete pouring would cause unacceptable disruption.

Why Helical Piles Over Traditional Piling and Concrete?

Helical piles install faster, produce no spoil, generate minimal vibration and noise, and are immediately load-bearing.

There’s no concrete to pour, no formwork to build, and no curing time. For live environments like schools, hospitals, and active construction sites, that means less disruption and potentially lower health and safety risk.

Key advantages for engineers and contractors:

  • No vibration
  • High load achieve with smaller rigs and machines
  • Reliable performance in weak and variable ground conditions
  • Safe and practical for use on contaminated land
  • Design life of up to 120 years
  • Fully certified load data for every pile installed
  • Not weather-dependent – installation possible in conditions that would delay a concrete pour
  • Suitable for confined and restricted-access sites
  • Can be installed at a range of angles to suit design requirements

Our Helical Pile Range and Manufacturing

We stock standard helical pile sizes – 76R and 89R for rapid dispatch with 114R, and 140R available with short turnaround times. For projects with specific site requirements, we design and manufacture bespoke helical piles to order, adjusting shaft diameter, helix configuration, length, and load capacity to meet the engineering specification.

All helical piles are manufactured to recognised standards:

  • EN 10025 – Structural steel
  • EN 10210 / EN 10219 – Structural hollow sections
  • ISO 3834 – Welding quality
  • EN ISO 1461 – Hot-dip galvanising
  • EN 1090-1 – CE/UKCA conformity
  • EN 1090-2 – Execution class EXC2 or EXC3 as applicable
