Planning and Engineering Design

Every successful foundation starts with understanding what the ground and the structure need from each other. Our planning and engineering design service smooths out the entire process – whether you're specifying ground screws for a garden room or helical screw piles for a bridge.
We evaluate site soil conditions and structural load requirements to develop an optimised foundation design, identifying the right product, configuration, installation depth, and required capacity. The result is a foundation specification that performs on-site and meets building control requirements, without you having to coordinate with multiple suppliers and consultants.

What Our Design Service Covers

Site Assessment and Soil Evaluation

We assess your site conditions to understand the ground you’re building on – soil type, bearing capacity, water table, slope, access constraints, and any environmental restrictions such as tree preservation orders or contaminated land. For larger projects, this may include GPR (ground penetration radar) surveys to identify underground services and obstructions before work begins.

Foundation Design and Pile Configuration

Based on your structural engineer’s load requirements, we develop an optimised foundation layout. For helical screw piles, this includes shaft diameter, helix configuration, installation depth, pile spacing, and required installation torque. For ground screws, we recommend the right product size, length, and bracket system. Every design is site-specific – we don’t work from generic templates.

Load-Bearing Calculations

We work with your project team to ensure the foundation design meets the specified load requirements – compression, tension, lateral, and shear as applicable. Our designs are developed to comply with relevant codes and standards, and we provide the data in a format that integrates with your structural engineer’s calculations.

Pile Cap Design and Steel Fabrication

For helical screw pile projects requiring pile caps, we provide engineered pile cap designs that ensure efficient load transfer from your structure into the piles below. We also handle steel fabrication and sub-base supply in-house, so the whole foundation package comes from one team.

GPS Mark Out

Before installation, we carry out GPS-driven mark out to position every pile precisely according to the design layout. Accurate positioning from the start means fewer issues during the build and a smoother handover to the next trade on site.

How We Work With Engineers and Project Teams

We work directly with structural engineers, civil engineers, architects, and contractors. Our role is to provide the foundation design expertise and installation data – your engineer retains full design authority over the project.

For engineers, that means:

  • Site-specific pile designs matched to your load requirements
  • Design data in a format that integrates with your structural calculations
  • Rapid response on specification queries and design iterations
  • Certified installation data on completion – torque pile logs and load capacity reports
  • A technical team you can speak to directly – not a call centre

For contractors and project managers, that means:

  • One point of contact for foundation design, supply, and installation
  • A design service that responds quickly so your programme stays on track
  • Clear documentation for building control submission
  • No chasing separate piling designers, suppliers, and installers
  • Fewer trades on site and a simpler procurement chain

Products We Design For

Ground Screws

Available in sizes from 68mm to 114mm across a range of lengths. We recommend the right product, bracket system, and layout for domestic and light commercial projects. Our ground screw calculator provides an initial specification – our team refines it based on your site and load requirements.

Helical Screw Piles

Available in standard stock sizes – 76R, 89R, 114R, and 140R – with bespoke design and manufacturing for specific project requirements. We develop a full pile design, including shaft diameter, helix configuration, installation depth, and required torque, ensuring compliance with:

  • EN 10025 – Structural steel
  • EN 10210 / EN 10219 – Structural hollow sections
  • ISO 3834 – Welding quality
  • EN ISO 1461 – Hot-dip galvanising
  • EN 1090-1 – CE/UKCA conformity
  • EN 1090-2 – Execution class EXC2 or EXC3 as applicable

From Design Through to Certified Installation

Our design service feeds directly into our supply and installation capability. Once the design is agreed, we supply from stock or manufacture to order, install with our own in-house teams, and provide the certified load data on completion. One team from start to finish – no gaps between design intent and what gets built on site.

FAQs about planning, design and engineering

  • No. We provide the foundation design expertise and installation data – your structural engineer retains full design authority. We work alongside your engineer to develop a pile design that meets their load requirements and satisfies building control.

  • Yes. We provide design services independently of installation. If you later choose us for supply and installation, the design feeds directly into the installation programme with no duplication of work.

  • Turnaround time depends on the project’s complexity, but we pride ourselves on responding quickly. For straightforward domestic projects, we can typically provide a specification within a few days. For larger commercial or infrastructure projects, we work to your programme timescales – speed of response is something our clients consistently value.
